The Engineering Masterpiece That Stands the Test of Time
The Great Wall of China has a total length of 21,196 kilometres (13,170 miles) and was built over hundreds of years, with many dynasties successively constructing it throughout. Parts of the wall will challenge the very core of your spirit. Most sites were built along mountain ridges in suburban areas, which have fantastic natural scenery and breath-taking views, ideal for those after the perfect photo.
Tours will provide a fascinating insight into the history of this magnificent monument. There are around 14 segments to pick between to visit offering hikes of every level, so it’s best to choose a route that fits your physical ability and stamina.
Mutianyu is fully restored and the easiest section to trek. Jinshanling is claimed to be the most beautiful section and is half-restored — offering a testing hike with stunning scenery. Those up for a challenge, head for Jiankou — it’s totally wild! As its closest to Beijing, Badaling is an incredibly popular section with tourists and by far the busiest.
